The Seven Chakras in Yoga – Balancing Energy for a Healthier You

Have you ever felt “off balance”, tired, anxious, or low on energy for no clear reason? In yoga, this imbalance is believed to come from blocked energy centers in the body known as chakras.

The word chakra means “wheel” or “circle” in Sanskrit. Chakras are spinning energy points along the spine that connect the physical body with the mind and spirit. There are seven main chakras, and each one influences a specific aspect of our well-being.

Let’s explore them simply:

1. Root Chakra (Muladhara)

Location: Base of the spine
Represents: Stability, security, and grounding
When balanced, you feel safe and confident. Yoga poses like Mountain Pose (Tadasana) and Warrior Pose (Virabhadrasana) help strengthen this chakra.

2. Sacral Chakra (Swadhisthana)

Location: Lower abdomen
Represents: Creativity, joy, and emotional balance
It fuels passion and flexibility, physically and mentally. Hip-opening poses and gentle flows are great for this chakra.

3. Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura)

Location: Upper abdomen
Represents: Confidence and personal power
When active, it boosts self-esteem and motivation. Try Boat Pose (Navasana) or core strengthening asanas to activate this energy center.

4. Heart Chakra (Anahata)

Location: Center of the chest
Represents: Love, compassion, and kindness
It connects the body and mind with empathy. Heart-opening poses like Cobra (Bhujangasana) and Bridge Pose (Setu Bandhasana) help open this space.

5. Throat Chakra (Vishuddha)

Location: Throat
Represents: Communication and truth
Balanced energy here helps you speak clearly and listen openly. Fish Pose (Matsyasana) supports this chakra.

6. Third Eye Chakra (Ajna)

Location: Between the eyebrows
Represents: Intuition and wisdom
Meditation and Child’s Pose (Balasana) help calm the mind and strengthen insight.

7. Crown Chakra (Sahasrara)

Location: Top of the head
Represents: Spiritual connection and enlightenment
When open, it brings inner peace and higher awareness. Savasana and deep meditation align this energy.

Finding Balance

When your chakras are balanced, energy flows freely — you feel calm, strong, and centered. But when they’re blocked, you may feel fatigue, restlessness, or emotional stress.

Through yoga, meditation, breathwork, and mindful living, you can realign these energy centers and bring harmony to your life.

At Sri Gururaya Wellness Center, our classes include practices that naturally balance your chakras — helping you heal, energize, and connect deeply with yourself.

Balance your energy. Balance your life.
